PrimaLoft Bio® technology helps polyester break down at an accelerated rate with prolonged exposure to specific environments, including landfill, marine, and wastewater.
PrimaLoft Bio®
Four years of research. One new technology to redefine synthetic fibre sustainability.
A more responsible approach to synthetic insulation
PrimaLoft Bio® is an innovative insulation and fabric technology designed to help reduce the long-term impact of plastics in the environment. Unlike conventional synthetic fibers, PrimaLoft Bio® is designed to return to materials found in nature when exposed to specific environments. It begins with 100% recycled content and represents a thoughtful approach to the full lifecycle of a product.
Reducing the long-term impact of synthetic fibers
Many products made from synthetic fibers can shed microfibers during washing and everyday wear. These fibers can eventually make their way into oceans, waterways, and other environments. PrimaLoft Bio® was created to help address this challenge through material innovation. By designing fibers that can return to materials found in nature under specific conditions, PrimaLoft Bio® helps reduce the long-term impact of plastics in the environment while delivering the performance consumers expect.

The numbers behind Bio
Independent testing of PrimaLoft Bio® demonstrates significant breakdown over time in landfill, marine, and wastewater conditions, supporting a more responsible approach to material innovation.
- 646 days in a Landfill EnvironmentAccording to independent testing, PrimaLoft Bio® polyester fibers reached 93.8% biodegradation* in 646 days when exposed to an accelerated landfill environment.
- 973 days in a Marine EnvironmentIn ongoing independent testing, PrimaLoft Bio® polyester fibers reached 76.6% biodegradation* in 973 days when exposed to an accelerated marine environment. In comparison, standard polyester exposed to the same environment has degraded just over 1%, in the same time frame.
- 241 days under ASTM D5210 conditionsAchieved 17.8% biodegradation in 241 days under ASTM D5210 wastewater conditions, demonstrating accelerated breakdown in biologically active wastewater environments.
